I was under the impression that shorting was re-introduced the 1920's crash to provide punters (traders) an alternative mechanism instead of jumping out of windows in moments of turmoil. Unfortunately with electronic trading which make it viable to trade 1 share parcels, combine that with bots coded up to attack individual stock and you have a recipe for disaster, through in a bit of AI and these computers will be playing with themselves shortly. Crikey and its only Monday.
