Well if you're a hedge fund with millions of shares you can influence the share price by allowing the price to rise and selling some shares to take a profit and on a day where market sentiment is weak dumping enough to overwhelm sellers and trigger stop losses then repurchase at lower prices using high frequency algorithmic trading. You can even buy and sell internally through the same broker between two funds both controlled by the same manager... Those pesky single digit share cross trades...
