I don't understand why short sellers have to buy shares to cover their positions? Surely the other party just want the money. They are not really after share ownership. Is it possible the shorters just give them the money and tear up the contract instead of delivering physical shares at the strike price? I don't really care as long as the shorters go away, they have had their day and made plenty. Now it is time for the other long suffering parties.
