2,265,093 was a huge day for shorts. Obviously, those shares were borrowed from ASX300 holders then sold short. But who bought them? Could it have been entities who could now buy (or had to buy) shares of ASX200 companies?
So, in terms of the share price, did this addition to shorts cancel the effect of the buying attracted by the ASX200 entry? I find it hard to know because the short sales figures published by ASIC are so far after the event and can be inaccurate on ASIC's own admission.
