I'm fairly sure I recall reading somewhere that the bots, or trading platforms of the big institutions, have software that can see all the stop losses, so they represent clear targets for them. But for some retail investors, the stops do represent a measure of safety. I think you were unlucky to have the SP take off before you could re-enter at a lower price. That's the danger of selling at the bottom. I'd hate to be chasing a rapidly increasing SP.
