Because they are trying to push the price down to enable them to cover their position. right now they appear to be doubling down a lot to get back to a non loss position to cover their shorts.
Every time the short position goes higher you can probably assume it is because they have had to borrow more shares at that days price to try and push the price down further.. its a dangerous gameand hopefully it explodes at some stage to where they give it up.
