but for the types of players that short 2m shares @ 3 they work with accrual accounting and not cash accounting and in 'marking to market' they will determine profit or loss per their books based on todays price. so no your point does not remain true. every book is marked to market constantly and 'unrealised gains and losses' are recognised. that isnt to say if they hold and price moves in their favor the unrealised loss will be less tomorrow but for what the shorters need to report to the power brokers behind the transaction they suffered a decent 'unrealised LOSS' this afternoon of approx 20%.
