Could you please do some research on shorts, so you stop misleading people.
First on March 15 there were 19.46M shorts outstanding at market close. On the 30 18 M so during this period shorts decreased so Closing price would go up.
Unless you plan to trade during the day intraday shorts will have no effect on you or closing price. Shorts are used to make money usually by day traders. If I open a short in AM and buy to cover in PM I have had no effect on number of shares in Play. If I buy to cover in AM then Open a new short in PM again no impact. One note the Brokers in US have 3 days to clear normal trades. So by to covers do not go to SEC for 3 days that is why you see volume of shorts right away but not total. I assume AU is same but I do not know.

I have made the following chart of changes in shorts Vs changes in Lynas SP. In the middle I have put red and green. When changes in shorts agree with changes in SP it is Green. When they disagree it is red. 9 greens and 7 reds indicating little correlation between shorts and price changes. Also look at volume of change typically less than 0.5 M shares With the stock trading 4 - 8 M shares there is really no impact. If you want we can talk about the one negative spike and recovery but i would like to keep it simple right now.
So look at data and tell me how you think shorts are impacting stock prices.
