I used to think short selling should be banned but now realise I was wrong .
Believe it or not , ASX is much better regulated than some other junior exchanges , eg the London AIM Cesspit - which is regulated by the brokers ! (known as NOMAD's , nominated advisors) .
Tacit approval of frauds has lead to entrepreneurial Chinese listing shell companies on AIM to fleece stupid foreigners or wai guo ren .
There has been an absolute avalanche of them and the only regulation is by the market itself - i.e. shorting .
Look at the downturn in China . They are threatening to imprison short sellers and journalists who use words like "stockmarket crash" . Is it any wonder that their stockmarket has gone up 100% in a year when the state is managing the news flow ?
Those Chinese will learn soon that you can't buck the market indefinitely .
