    That's an easy question to answer Turlet,

    Say I have 100,000 HDR shares (I wish!!!) and don't want to risk my whole portfolio on Sotto. I can short 50,000 shares to reduce my risk by 50% and I can keep my 100,000 shares without causing a CGT event.

    Shorting is also used by CFD providers to hedge their positions.
