Although I am against any intervantion in the markets, I can see the logic in restricting the short-sell ban on the financials.
Banking is kind of a derivative business to the real economy, and you probably don't want to unecessarily wreck real businesses because banks have behaved stupidly.
The answer with the financial sector is stricter supervision and enforcement of prudential standards.
