It's not BOA/ML trading on their own account.
They are merely the custodian for foreign (mainly US) investors buying into the Aussie market.
It's like if you were to buy on the NASDAQ - Commsec or Nabtrade would be the custodian holding your stock.
Commsec or Nabtrade are not actually making the decision to buy or sell - they are merely executing your order using a US brokerage.
