I don't think a similar event is really possible here (and shouldn't really happen to the same extent anywhere) because usually institutions do not engage in 'naked shorting' which is illegal in most places. However from my understanding that's what happened over there and the players who did so got caught out.
Shorts have done well with A2M but in this environment I would be a bit nervous if I had not closed out my position by now.
