you'd think that if shorters had to buy back stock to return due to the rebalance, if they wanted to they could at the same time short sell the same amount of stock .. that is if they wanted to end up in the same position.
it may be that some short positions are taking profit, which would explain why there is 'net buying' happening on market... but that would imply they made a concious decision to not retain their short position.. for now at least.
could be due to a number of factors, but there is a long list of reasons why the share price could increase substantially in the coming months... so maybe they took this chance to update their research/outlook on MSB and concluded that this was a good time to take profits.
all speculation of course.
