For several years a US economist has been running a site called "Shadow Government Statistics" where he tracks inflation using the metrics employed in the 1980's. Many people, including myself, gave his numbers a lot of credence. But, it turns out his methods overstate the case. Yes...inflation is higher than the reported official numbers and they have been so for years... but nowhere near to the same degree as stated by Shadowstats.

It is important when trying to project how gold should be reacting in this market.
