Some thoughts on Patience (for tech stocks)
The old cliche 'the stock market is a device for shifting cash from the impatient to the patient' needs some expanding.
There are at least 3 distinct types of patience - depending on where the tech stock is at in terms of maturity:
1) wishful patience - tech in prototype stage - requires the patience to see through all the complexities of getting the product / features right - this is a particularly risky stage so must be accompanied by extreme diligence - consider A3D, CR8, VRI
2) commercial patience - tech is trying to break into significant revenue - requires the patience to see through the key deal making phase that will define the company's future - this always takes a fair bit longer than you expect and still somewhat risky - consider BUD, SYT, RBO, UPD, DTZ, IAM
3) compounding patience - tech in blue chip stage - requires the patience to reinvest dividends or at least add to holdings to enjoy decades long growth - this is about letting the stock do its thing and not interfering - consider Google, Apple, Atlassian
