100% agree and as someone who is an amateur of a few years with no real knowledge I tend to have a handful of stocks I watch and know inside out, if they look good I will then invest, if they don't I wont. I wont put money down on something I haven't watched closely for at least a few weeks which at times can be tough but I'd rather have the regret of not making the money than the regret of losing it.
