Prof. James Tour
Chief Scientific Advisor at Dotz Nano
Professor of Materials Science and NanoEngineering and a Professor of Computer Science at Rice University in Houston, Texas. He is well known for his work in molecular electronics and molecular switching molecules. Prof. Tour holds more than 60 US patents and has over 500 publications. He was named among “the 50 most Influential Scientists in the world today” in 2014 and was selected as Scientist of the Year by R&D magazine in 2013.
See the video below regarding how Graphene Quantum Dots are extracted
Researchers from Rice University developed a simple method to reduce coal into graphene quantum dots (GQDs). Different types of coal produce differently-sized quantum dots (ranging from 2 to 20 nanometers). The yield is also very good - about 20% of the coal can be turned into GQDs. Those GQDs are water-soluble and non toxic (according to early tests)
Dotz Ltd. was incorporated in March 2014 and partnered with Rice University to develop and commercialize a new and innovative technology that will change the GQD market. Invested in by several private investors, Dotz Ltd. Dotz has signed an R&D agreement with the Tour Lab Group at Rice University, one of the 5 leading groups in Graphene R&D today, to develop various products and applications for Dotz GQD’s.
Remember - Patented technology: 5 patents over all major jurisdictions.
Exciting stuff IMO
Finally remember it's not in the lab anymore it's being produced! $$$
