I read the announcement of their battery investment with subdued excitement, and like you, bought in. I posted here some weeks ago that one day we will all awake to learn that Li-ion batteries will become superseded; this is inevitable because even if they are presently doing the best job, they do suffer from some intrinsic problems, and overcoming these with new technology will most likely see them replaced. When LWP last week referred to a new battery technology, I thought possibly solid state ceramic, like that of Johnson Batteries in the US. But not so.
The JV with a somewhat 'mysterious'
Australian based, Russian born scientist, Victor Volkov, seems very encouraging if taking his Al-grahene-O2 battery results at face value, but as one of LWP's greatest critics,
@marty386 pointed out, he is not associated with any Australian University of reputable company. There are hundreds of LinkedIn profiles matching the name, many of them scientists, so I suppose all will be revealed soon enough. I doubt if even LWP would throw $1.6m at some backyard invention.
This is why I bought back in: graphene batteries do seem to be in the forefront on the new battery revolution. Manchester University, where graphene was first invented by two Russians (I bet our Mr Volkov is connected; shared the same vodka bottle when they were all students back in Moscow), has over 200 researchers working on graphene, many of them with electrical storage. Both graphene and battery technology are two of the hottest research fields today. LWP has bought into both with one investment. Call me simplistic, but I'm keeping it this way for this stpd investor.
One last point regarding Volkov's 'backyard experiments:' Youtube is full of such stuff. My point is, working with graphene is apparently not that difficult. Do you know that the original Russian inventors used scotch tape as one of their primary tools in extracting graphene. History of science is full of such simple examples.
More simply, my gut tells me so. Even more so, it tells me that LWP will become the ASX market darling - again
