I have more aggressive predictions than most when it comes to the rate at which we'll change over to EVs and believe the Australian government will be, at best, slow to adapt. That said, I definitely agree that it's going to take at least a few years longer for EVs to make sense in Australia. Low population density is not helpful when it comes to rapid infrastructure changes and we're accustomed to travelling long distances.
Luckily we can all but ignore that when trading EV related stocks. It'll be north America, Europe and China that drive almost all of the demand for battery materials in the short term.
