I think he (Trump) did a lot to try and gain support from the Democrats and unite the 2 parties with some common goals. He had some Special" guests that seemed to get the Democrats involved.
I think he also made some good points re tax reform eg Harley Davidson bikes have 100% tax added in some Countries but the US charged little to no such tax on imports.
On another note - Debt Ceiling - what likely impact will the reinstatement of a debt ceiling on March 15 2017 have? "On October 30, 2015 the debt ceiling was again suspended to March 2017"
