Wangle.
Hmm. I've deployed a number of - hardware and software - VPN's over a bunch of different networks. This includes an interstate one that is currently supporting the DAB+ Radio network (Cisco 800 series endpoints over DSL). Both of those people who listen to Digital Radio can thank me later.
Something does not smell right with this company and it's app. I think they have developed
something but I think that something is not able to do what they claim. Two points to make on this:
1) If you are running anything through a Virtual Private Network it's only going to be
as fast as the network that it is running across. For example, if you are on a 3G connection, the VPN is not going to be any faster than 3G's upper limit. If you are on an ADSL connection, it will top out at your exchange sync speed. Yes, a VPN can provide some caching and compression which
can speed up some of your access, however even then you run into a number of different complications such as how fast the server is at the other end, your level of reception (if on a mobile device) etc which may mean that your experience is actually
worse.
2) The very fact that a VPN can obscure the traffic running over a connection - which is a big, security related, selling point - introduces an inherent overhead. When they wrap your data in a secure blanket, extra 'weight' is added to it. This weight adds lag, and slows things down, especially if the VPN host - I'm assuming that you run through a Wangle server somewhere - is slow as well.
Their claims that they can 'improve 3G speed by 516%' and '4G speed by 43%' is.. I'm sorry.. Calling it.. That's totally bollocks. There are scant technical details around, but lots of pretty graphs, charts and stock pictures. Buyer beware: There isn't a long line of VC's in Silicon Valley falling over themselves to fund this product and if you look on the WGL threads you'll see that a few others are
raising similar points about whether or not the company is legit.
I think this one is best avoided lads. And tell your less technical friends about it before they waste their hard earned money on something that way very well be a scam.
Note: This is only my opinion. As always, do your own research...
