When the HIV patients , who were on retrovirals , were transplanted the drugs provided protection for the new marrow . This effectively (so far) has stopped the virus returning . It augers well for Biotrons first in class drug which is the only one to attack HIV in reservoirs . It also seems to work in well with Benitec's (and their partner Callimmune) modus operandi . They too will be attacking the virus in a way that will get to the reservoirs . The holy grail of medicine , an AIDS cure , beckons .
