T20's....registers.........
love 'em..........its my first port of call when working through shells and micro's.
however, its not easy to say what to look for as it becomes a research field of its own. However i do shy away from registers with a high Asian presence as it sometimes looks like the stock is a "lifeboat" for migrating money.
Insto's...nah, wont find them on a speccie.........dealmakers, brokers, or ex brokers who have gone out on their own, related parties who want to bring in a deal, and collectively have control whilst individually staying under the 19.9% threshold.
Its a matter of the overall study of a stock, as to whether you want a dominant register, or, a wide open, passive one thats easy to control, or, dilute out when the deal makers do a cap raise to kick the company into gear.
And, in a similar thought, do you have a passive register, who dont care, or a compliant, receptive register that can see the process under way, and are fully supportive
No register is alike, and none can be said to be "textbook", though many come close.
Its of little benefit to mention names here to watch out for as it depends on each stock, and, sentiment....two years ago, seeing Matt Walker on a register would generate hysteria, now it seems to be Tolga. If anything, seeing good names is a great pre cursor, but its important to be aware of "flavour of the month" holders, or, larger, corporate flippers who can quickly ransack a stock when they decide to exit. Speaking of which, if you have a big conviction in a stock, you soon learn to memorise the T20 and are quickly able to work out market action should a T20 be exiting.........it can be a death roll, or, a brilliant chance to gather up at a good price.
Researching a register/T20 is a world unto itself..........pulling out names, doing the "Google" on them or an asic search etc............combining holders to see a collective, dominant force etc. No post will give you a quick, definitive answer in respect to registers, but, learn your way around, and the knowledge is a powerful aid in your favour. By all means share info, but, if you discover a gem in the register, remember, knowledge is power, and is your competitive edge. Its not inside info, as its all public and available to all, its your interpretation that gives you the edge.......broadcast it, and you back at the end of the queue..
And....finally, any deep research into a register may find a person who either, respects privacy, or, could even be a prominent HC poster for that matter......respect their privacy, and dont make a dick of yourself by "exposing" people.........this game may be ruthless, but there is still room for dignity and integrity.
