Yep.. sound advice. That first method is only for ASX 200 Co's that can be reasonably well valued... but yes lots of caveats to go with it.

For the speccie end... not a place to be unless you have been around for a while. In my first few years I was too, too trusting. [It will be interesting to see if ASIC grows a few fangs and claws under the new bloke].

I've read Jesse Livermore's book... it's telling he titled it Reminiscences of a Stock Operator, it's very clear he was a gun for hire to walk prices up and down.
