The original ideology of communism Karl Marx style was to re-distribute some of the financial assets of the older more affluent people, to younger or just simply poorer persons. The underlying assumption is that there are more younger or poorer ( of all age groups) than affluent, so a voting system for all adults, as we have compulsory voting, would usually work as a majority vote for the above mentioned re-distribution.
That is exactly the Opposition's leader modus operandi. Only a relatively small percentage of young voters will vote for a conservative party.
In reality this is not what actually happens, you just get different elites. Shorten is already very wealthy FYI.
