When we first came to Aust, made friends with a cop, suggested we all go out for a meal, but would need to get there just before 7.00pm as the place didn't take bookings and was a Chinese reataurant. It was in China town in Sydney, we walked past all these nice looking restaurants and entered to my horror this dingy looking place, plastic table and chairs. You get the picture. Stewart our host, just said bring out whatever you recommend. Well , all I can say , it was the best Chinese meal I have ever had anywhere in the world. Sure enough , as the restaurant was only small, they started queing up outside, and they kept coming. After about 2 hrs when we left, the queue outside the door just hadn't got any smaller, and more were arriving. Never judge a book by its cover..
Found a little cafe/restaurant in the back streets of Colmar, France, lucky to get 10 diners in there, but, was the food delicious, and half the price to the swanky restaurants in the main part of town. Whilst living in working in London, used to frequent the Playboy club- why- to get a really great feed that was really cheap. Best value of anywhere at the time in London. Forget the drinks, cost an arm and a leg, but if you went upstairs to gamble, the drinks were free. I certainly wasn't interested in gambling.
We really are very strange creatures, I hate gambling of any sort, don't bet on the Melb Cup, won't buy a lottery ticket, won't go anywhere near the pokies, yet gamble on the ASX. Yes- the ASX is gambling, we are all trying to beat the market !!!
