I'm not a fulltime trader struggling, in my experience though with every crash there are always sector rotation opportunities and buy the dip, automatic reaction/rally opportunities. You have a flight to quality.
If you don't go the short/inverse ETF route, you either try to time the market and take cash off the table prior to the crash or instead of adding to positions that cash you would've added you keep in reserve, or you rotate into the next sector eg property.
