IMO.... give it another 3 months the doubters and conspiracy nutters will be less certain. The lockdowns have slowed the infection rates but it's still spreading at a geometric rate... only the length of time between doubling has increased. From mid February to the end of March the reported daily cases were doubling every 5 days... from the beginning of April the numbers flattened to around 75000 a day but now noticeably ticking higher as restrictions are being relaxed. The threat is exponential growth... a slower rate only buys a couple of extra months.

It should be taken seriously but there's plenty of media outlets still trying to keep the panic up. The data would suggest Australia is currently doing a good job of keeping it under control.
