FWIW I found the coffee in France even worse than Switzerland. I know Melbourne pats itself on the back over its coffee, but I found coffee in Adelaide and Brisbane to be just as good. Had some of the best coffee on rigs and camps in PNG and here in Qatar would you believe. PNG beans are second to none and the ones they've got here along with the Saeco coffee machine wouldn't be out of place in most cafes back home.
