They still have the bear pits, minus the bears in them. The bears (3) live by the river bank now in big outdoor enclosures. It's more bear friendly but still not ideal imo, no worse than a zoo though I guess.
The in-laws live in a village in the alps, the most pristine and well presented place I have ever seen. The council is very strict on maintaining heritage, the architure is stunning. They (council)will come and knock on your door and tell you to renovate if your chalet becomes hard on the eye. Needless to say, I won't be buying a chalet their anytime soon.... it's a whole different world of wealth there.
