It's not often do you come across an artist these days that finds success when they don't fit the typical 'mainstream mold' i.e fit, ripped, sex appeal, marketability etc. 'Real' artists just aren't marketable in the media and mainstream anymore..... Not just artists, it is everything. Can't say I'm a fan as such, but I can see how he has talent and massive kudos for breaking the mold cliche and getting it out there against the odds. I'm sure he has been told many times he wouldn't make it due to his physical appearance - we need more of this mold breaking.
This is half of what is wrong with society now; being told what we should follow, being told what talent is, how we should live our lives, what and where we should put our money, creating a false sense of choice when really - no one has a say. I.e what is fashionable? Fashion is what the controlling entities tell us it is.... The clothes that are cool are what they tell us they are, marketed through high profile people to the lemmings.
Same goes for music, business trends, food etc.
Can I have gluten free pizza? Are you coeliac? huh, what is coeliac? exactly. Most of the youth don't even know why we have gluten free products and the challenges it creates for restaurants/eateries. All of a sudden it becomes 'cool'....
Can I pay 3 x as much for some of that 'new superfood' porridge with a sprinkle of chia seed? I heard in the media it is really good.... but really, new?

LOL - I could go on and on. People have really lost touch with many aspects of life.
Easy $$$ creating and marketing 'new' trends to the gullible.
