What shortman.com.au shows is that total shorts hit a peak of 2mil shares on 11 March and have remained at that level through till current data at 25 March
But since 11 March there have been a further approx 500k of stock shorted through till 25 March. A bit more again since but we don't know the overall position size as of yesterday as that particular data is only provided T+4.
So the shorter/s have closed at least 500k of that initial 2mil shorted and opened new positions along the way. What this means though is that they have been locking in losses over the last few weeks. Sort of like a back to front averaging down but with incurring losses along the way as they close positions and try and take new positions at a higher price.
