Shorten caught out lying by Treasury data

The Australian this morning has lengthy coverage of Shortens tax grab, backed up by Treasury analysis of official tax data figures.

Shorten was on Today just before, spruiking his policy, claiming it targets "the big end of town" and "stops millionaires getting $2.5 million tax cheques".

His nose was growing perceptably! The way Shorten appeals to the politics of envy - an appeal to the Pauls only too happy to keep robbing Peter - makes my skin crawl.

The truth is in this graphic compiled from Treasury analysis

    20180314_075316.jpg

    - 86% of people affected earn under $87000
    - 54% of those affected earn under $18,200
    - the vast proportion of the actual credits refunded go to these same groups

This is a tax grab aimed at lower and middle income earners - the aspirational class.
