The Labor party exists for one reason only, and that is to pursue the interests of those who control the union movement. It has no other purpose, so to choose Shorten is a completely logical outcome. The farce that Labor perpetuate on the nation is to promote any other objective other than lining the pockets of those who run the unions.

Choosing Rudd as the temprary stand in leader to preserve a few seats, is proof that that there is not shred of ideology left within the party. It is simply the political arm of the ACTU.
