Rightly or wrongly, mainstream Australia associates the massive escalation in terror with people who have come here from foreign places. Bill's totally unnecessary statements on women's clothing that is not native Australian, identifies him and labor with what many voters fear.
He will have to dispel the perception that a vote for labor is a vote to open the floodgates again. Every time he opens his mouth, he reinforces this perception.
