If you use gross debt that would be right, but if you used net debt the amount is $326 billion, which is 18% of GDP, which is much much lower than the rest of the world.
Australia’s net debt was actually negative in 2006 and 2007. However the incompetent government of Rudd, Gillard, Shorten, Bowen and Swann manage to increase net debt from negative to almost $200 billion within 5 years and left the budget in a disastrous state. (See graph below)
Note the time of the budget deficit at its highest level correspond with the government under the ALP, this has now be fixed by the current government.
Just like the Medicare scare, or the no carbon tax under a government I led, the ALP is full of lies.
