The evidence strongly supports your idea that these guys will, indeed, be the ones who will "pull it off".
Management depth and experience is way ahead of any competitors, the deposit is clearly the largest and richest yet found in the world, and they have a huge head start, with actual mining less than four months away.
Sir Humphrey would call it "A courageous decision", for any banker who approved finance to someone facing competition like that.
