I agree with you entirely about the education experience being much better online.
Just to clarify, I am talking entirely about the experiences not linked to the education. Working in a foreign country, socialising outside of university, travelling/sightseeing, developing language skills through genuine interactions.
Study visas are in part a means for the individual to live and work in a foreign country for an extended period of time.
