I do have a good understanding of what shorters do, I just don't like it and I'm offering an alternative view.
I'll say again, if someone wants to sell something, then my view is that they should own it first. Ownership is a fundamental characteristic of the act of selling.
It's also bizarre that super funds loan out shares for the purposes of shorting. In my opinion that's a failure in their fiduciary duty to their members.
Maybe the terminology can be changed, but fundamentally you can't "sell" something you don't "own".
