I might add that I didn't last long at short-selling. I found it a bit nerve-jangling !
If you buy shares normally ( going long ), the most you can lose is your total investment in that stock.
However, with shorting your losses can be infinite ! Say you short a stock & it continues to go gangbusters northwards instead of down as in your plan. If you wait for it to come back down again to cover your short ( buy them back ), it may not come back down and continue into orbit. You end up buying them back ( short-covering ) at a premium to your short-sale.
