Shorters don't short companies with sound business models they invest in them. Yes shorters do short companies with flawed business models, they are going to fall anyway, shorters just punish them that bit more, just like buyers reward stocks with sound business models a bit more.
If your fund is sound, shorters will never affect your fund. Even if they do, when they're happy with their profit in an all-evident bear market they 1/ got lucky making money in a sound company and 2/ will add demand when they buy it back.
