That was just a reporting glitch due to delayed reporting of some positions. Happens some times as you can see from the chart.
The current updated figure (6 April) from ASIC is 4.5% which is around the long-term average. Quite silly to see that BusinessDesk article about shorting of A2M. According to Shortman there's about 30+ companies with a higher percentage of shorts - where are the articles on them!
