There is no way he or you could know this.  Firstly the asx report 2m intraday shorts on Friday mostly inline with other recent days, but as I have said this has a history of being completely off the money as shorters are breaking the law by not declaring to the ASX, because they dont want their big volume being seen the next day and spoiling them loading up 40 million shorts in four days. The second report - from ASIC is conveniently (naturally) delayed by 5 days to give the shorts plenty of 'cover' for their activities. They seem resonable happy to comply with this reporting law as they have done the damage by then.

Shorts were 78m on 16th, I think a good portion closed Fri, clearly a good portion closed today and shorting going forward will probably be mere hedging at a lower level of activity..... barring further bad news.
