The challenge to your comment is the periodic table.. Seeing as Lithium is the lightest metal on the planet whilst also being the least dense solid element, whatever trumps Lithium in terms of energy storage will certainly have a challenge. Not withstanding the fact that one of the largest uses of Lithium is in glass and ceramics which is not a dying industry. Seeing as Oil lasted 100+ years and the research into Lithium in Energy usage has been a good 70 years before getting to where it is now with the open commercial acceptableness it is garnering, can't see an usurper coming out of the woodwork in a blink of an eye.
