If you have a look at the 3 year short sales chart for CCP you'll see that shorts peak in August each year on the lead up to results, then they drop off, presumably because the results were good.
Not everyone makes money out of shorts. I saw some analysis that concluded that if you invested in the top 10 shorted stocks, that 1 year later and you would have outperformed the ASX 200 index. I am not suggesting this approach, but hopefully you get the idea that shorters aren't all-knowing.
