Bezos adds record $18.5b in single day to his fortune



Jeff Bezos added $US13 billion ($18.5 billion) to his net worth on Monday in the US, the largest single-day jump for an individual since the Bloomberg Billionaires Index was created in 2012.

ASX posts best session since April; tech shares led the gains

The Australian sharemarket recorded its best session since early April as vaccine hopes and policy commitments saw investor sentiment jump.

The S&P/ASX 200 Index rose 154.7 points, or 2.6 per cent, to 6156.3, taking the benchmark to its highest close since March 6.

The gains leave the index 35.4 per cent above its March 23 low although still 14.1 per cent off its February 20 high.

Following on from another record high for the Nasdaq Composite leading into trade on Tuesday, technology shares lead the market higher. Sezzle shares jumped 13 per cent to $7.29,

Nearmap added 11.2 per cent to $2.49

and Afterpay closed 8 per cent higher at $75.05.
