It is pretty surprising that none of the Conservative govts have changed this. Or even Hawke as he hated the ABC.
If the Ads weren't about 50% of airtime like it seems on the commercials, it could a good thing to have a separate source of income, if only to shut up the constant moaning from the haters.
But of course if they were beholden to advertisers, it would make broadcasting some of the hard edge stuff they do a bit tricky.
BTW, not sure your demogrpahics are typical ABC - middle and upper middle class, maybe, but Ferrari, Mercs?
