It is NOT a question of whether humans are "important" on this planet. It is a question of whether humans, being the dominant specie occupying Earth at the present time, have contributed to climate change, or contributed to some other natural disasters. It is in the seeking of an answer or answers that is the important part. If humans had not wondered and tried to seek out the causes (the whys) of various human illnesses, there would not have been advancement in medical science.
To brush it off as "Just the way it is" is to put one's head in the sand.
