Sorry I somehow didn't paste this from my notes. The GST is a regressive tax. It stops people from spending. Also 100% of the GST is redistributed back to the States. The States/Territories spend this money.
This is a Federal issue as it primarily affects un/employment from a Federal directive. The Federal Govt is responsible for several matters that it may reneg upon if it raises State GST.
GST is a political football. Not a Governing Body.
